Great news for T-Mobile subscribers who own Alexa-enabled devices: you can now make and receive phone calls hands-free! This new feature comes as an Alexa skill that directly links your T-Mobile service to your Alexa account, joining the ranks of AT&T and Verizon in integrating phone call handling with Alexa.
According to T-Mobile spokesperson Trang Nguyen, this service is absolutely free for T-Mobile customers and is available for all Alexa users. This is a notable advantage over Verizon, which charges $5 per month for its Alexa skill.
To enable this convenient feature, simply open your Alexa app and navigate to More > Settings > Communication. Under accounts, select T-Mobile and follow the prompts to link your accounts. Alternatively, you can set it up by searching for the T-Mobile skill in the Alexa skill store.
Hands-free calling is perfect for those busy moments at home when your hands are occupied with cooking or other tasks. While smartphones or Bluetooth speakers can handle calls, having an Alexa smart speaker like the Amazon Echo makes it even easier to make or answer phone calls.
Once the setup is complete, you can give voice commands like “Alexa, call John” or “Alexa, dial 1-800-255-3700” to make calls. For incoming calls, Alexa will announce them, and you can respond with “Alexa, answer call” or “Alexa, dismiss call.” Additionally, this feature enables emergency services, so you can say, “Alexa, call 911” in case of emergencies.
By default, the T-Mobile skill activates hands-free calling on all linked Alexa-enabled devices, and incoming calls will ring on all of them. However, if you don’t want certain devices to ring, you can easily disable this feature. Go to More > Settings > Communication, select T-Mobile, and choose which specific devices you want to use with the phone service. You can also turn off incoming calls to particular devices.
This T-Mobile and Alexa integration offers a new level of convenience for hands-free calling, making it easier than ever to stay connected while multitasking at home. So go ahead, link your T-Mobile account to your Alexa devices, and enjoy the future of hands-free communication.
